Borkhovst was a minor planet that was privately owned to be a wildife preserve. For the most part it was well removed from Known Space's problems as it was not considered a tactical objective or incredibly mineral rich. It was the sixth planet in its solar system with most of the planets ahead of it were hot Jupiters or Mercurys.

Borkhovst was a planet that was designated a wildlife preserve by a Russian private corporation that purchased large portions, if not the whole world for various different fauna from similar worlds, including Earth. The population was small, roughly only a hundred thousand people scattered across the two megacontinents. large preserves covered an area up to the size of Colorado with very little input from rangers. While they did exist, rangers were instructed only to cover the most important regions. Since the planet was effectively owned by the Russians, most people on the planet spoke Earth Russian, Earth English, as well as a few local dialects.
History[]
On August 1st, 3234, the planet was able to witness a supernova from a supermassive star HD 251782+B6541. The distance of the star was dated to be roughly 2234. Since Borkhovst was farther from Earth, it would be quite some time until HD 251782+B6541's explosion would be visible to them.
